This season can't end soon enough for the New York Mets.

The team announced Wednesday that outfielder Yoenis Cespedes will undergo season-ending heel surgery. Cespedes was placed on the disabled list with sore heels prior to Tuesday's 6-3 win over the Padres.

The recovery time from the surgery is expected to be eight to 10 months.

After about nine weeks away, Cespedes returned to the Mets on Friday for the first game of the Subway Series against the New York Yankees, going 2 for 4 with a home run and RBI.

He ends his Mets season -- just 38 games -- with a .262 average, nine homers and 29 RBI.
