Nationals pitcher Stephen Strasburg to undergo season-ending surgery for carpal tunnel

Stephen Strasburg will have season-ending surgery to correct carpal tunnel in his right hand, Washington Nationals manager Dave Martinez said Saturday.
The reigning World Series MVP will have the surgery next week. Formally, the Nationals moved him to the 60-day injured list.
"It has to be fixed," Martinez told reporters Friday.
Strasburg exited his start Aug. 14 against the Baltimore Orioles after throwing 16 pitches. It was just his second outing of the season, as nerve troubles delayed the start of his 2020 campaign. He gave up six earned runs in five innings.
The 32-year-old signed a seven-year, $245 million contract this offseason after helping the Nationals hoist the first championship trophy in team history. He went 5-0 in the playoffs with a 1.98 ERA and 47 strikeouts over 36 ⅓ innings.
