On top of the brouhaha that came of it, Fernando Tatis Jr.'s decision to swing 3-0 with the bases loaded Monday night catalyzed history.

The San Diego Padres shortstop's grand slam, Wil Myers' salami the next day and Manny Machado's walk-off grand slam Wednesday meant the Padres became the first National League club in 125 years to hit grand slams in three consecutive games, according to Stats by STATS

The Cleveland Spiders accomplished the same feat between June 15-17, 1895, against the Boston Beaneaters, which won two of the three games over the Spiders.

The Padres, however, won the three games — all against the Texas Rangers — in which they've hit grand slams. Myers' first-inning blast on Tuesday gave San Diego enough cushion in a 6-4 victory, while Machado's walk-off surged the Friars from a one-run deficit in the 10th to a 6-3 win.

But it was Tatis Jr.'s shot that sparked an entire debate of unwritten rules, specifically whether swinging on a 3-0 pitch while winning by a wide margin is acceptable.
