New York took the series-opener with a strong performance from its bullpen, with six pitchers combing to give up just one run in 4 ⅓ innings after starter James Paxton couldn't get through the fifth. 

The Yankees have now won 11 consecutive postseason games against the Twins dating back to 2004.

In Game 2 on Saturday, Masahiro Tanaka (11-9 4.45, ERA) gets the ball for the Yankees. In five career postseason starts, Tanaka has a 1.50 ERA in 30 innings. His most recent playoff outing was a win against the Red Sox in Game 2 of the ALDS in 2018.

Meanwhile, right-handed rookie Randy Dobnak (2-1, 1.59 ERA) will start for the Twins. Undrafted out of a small Division II college in West Virginia, the 24-year-old got his start in an independent league and was driving an Uber this spring. Now, he's set for the biggest start of his life.
