San Diego Padres vs. Los Angeles Dodgers, Game 2: Predictions, odds, how to watch

The Los Angeles Dodgers have found themselves in very familiar territory. They are the heavy favorites in the National League, earned themselves a first-round bye, and now have to take on an NL West rival in their opening round. We've seen this story many times before, including last year, when the Arizona Diamondbacks marched through the Dodgers in the NLDS en route to a World Series appearance. This year though, the San Diego Padres are arguably hotter than those 2023 D-Backs were.
The Dodgers got out to a good start on Saturday, earning a win in Game 1. However, one win obviously isn't enough to secure a spot in the NLCS. The Dodgers will throw Jack Flaherty in Game 2, who has had a fantastic season between the Tigers and Dodgers. Meanwhile, Yu Darvish will take the bump for San Diego. We could be in for a serious pitcher's duel as both hurlers tallied ERAs under 3.60.
Here's everything to know about this pivotal Game 2 matchup.
2024 MLB Playoffs: Predictions as divisional series matchups heat up
Predictions for Padres-Dodgers, Game 2:
Payton Shanks, Sportsbook Wire: Padres 6, Dodgers 3
Shanks writes, "San Diego, despite losing the last 3 in LA, has won 6 of the last 10 meetings overall. The 3 straight losses may sound off-putting, but that doesn’t scare me off. I don’t see the Dodgers beating a team as good as this one in 4 straight meetings, so this bet is worth the risk. This is a lean because the Dodgers are the better and hotter team, so this does come with risk."
NBC Sports: Lean Flaherty over Darvish
The NBC Sports Bet Staff notes that while neither Darvish nor Flaherty has a winning record in the postseason, Flaherty has a postseason ERA (3.60) more than half a point better than Darvish (4.19). Darvish is more experienced in the postseason, but the Dodgers offense is also very experienced and should be able to match him.
FOX Sports: Dodgers 5, Padres 4
FOX Sports notes that "the Dodgers [have gone] 8-2 across the 10 games they were moneyline favorites in their last 10 matchups." That's a very strong track record and one that's hard to bet against. Furthermore, FOX Sports' moneyline implies a 59.2% chance of a victory, but the Dodgers have won 63.9% of games in which they were favored. That's a decent difference, meaning there could be money to be made betting the moneyline.
