Cincinnati Reds employee at Goodyear, Arizona spring training site tests positive for coronavirus
The Cincinnati Reds released a statement Wednesday that an Arizona-based staff member in Goodyear had tested positive for coronavirus. All Reds employees who were in contact with the employee are being tested and have self-quarantined.
"As part of our commitment to help prevent the spread of COVID-19, the Reds are sending a precautionary notice to those who were inside the building of the Reds Spring Training Complex in Goodyear, Arizona, that an Arizona-based Reds employee has tested positive for COVID-19," the Reds said in a statement.
"For your reference, the dates involved are February 29, 2020 through March 14, 2020."
Earlier this week, a second minor league player in the New York Yankees organization tested positive for the virus.
The start of the Major League Baseball season has been postponed until at least mid-May, commissioner Rob Manfred announced Monday. He also said that he is urging players to leave spring-training sites, but the facilities will remain open for limited access.
Opening Day was scheduled for March 26.
