Boston Red Sox right fielder Mookie Betts called the blockbuster trade of his good friend, Boston Celtics point guard Isaiah Thomas, "shocking."

"It was kind of shocking. I didn't think it was going to happen," Betts told the Boston Globe

The Celtics dealt Thomas to the Cleveland Cavaliers in exchange for All-Star Kyrie Irving. Betts and Thomas became great friends in 2014 — when the Celtics acquired Thomas and shortly after Betts debuted for the Red Sox.

“We’d text and check in on each other. He’s a good guy,” Betts said. “Love his game.”
