Joakim Soria agrees to three-year deal with Kansas City Royals
Right-handed reliever Joakim Soria is back with the Kansas City Royals.
The two sides agreed to a three-year, $25 million contract early Monday morning, Paste BN Sports' Bob Nightengale confirmed. The deal was first reported by ESPN.
Soria, who began his MLB career with the Royals in 2007, finished last season with the Detroit Tigers. The Tigers targeted Mark Lowe for a multi-year deal, making Soria expendable.
Soria, 31, has 202 career saves, but he likely won’t find himself as the closer with the Royals. Wade Davis took over for an injured Greg Holland as the team’s closer role en route to the Royals' World Series title; both are expected to return in 2016.
