CC Sabathia records career strikeout No. 3,000
CC Sabathia became the 17th pitcher in Major League Baseball history to join the 3,000 strikeout club.
The New York Yankees' left-hander struck out the Arizona Diamondbacks' John Ryan Murphy in the second inning Tuesday night in Phoenix, his third strikeout of the game.
Sabathia, 38, is just the third lefty to reach 3,000 strikeouts, joining Randy Johnson and Steve Carlton.
In November, Sabathia announced that this would be his final season. Originally a first-round draft pick by the Cleveland Indians in 1998, he pitched for the Indians from 2001-08 and then the Milwaukee Brewers in 2008. He signed a free-agent contract with the Yankees on Dec. 18, 2008.
