Giancarlo Stanton has calf strain, status for Yankees' Opening Day uncertain

TAMPA, Fla. -- It appears Giancarlo Stanton will miss more time with the Yankees.
After appearing in 18 regular-season games and two postseason games with the team in 2019, Stanton has a Grade 1 calf strain, manager Aaron Boone said Wednesday.
Boone cast doubt on whether Stanton, who suffered the injury in a workout on Tuesday, will be ready for the start of the 2020 season.
The news comes one day after it was announced that Luis Severino would miss the entire season due to Tommy John elbow surgery.
Aaron Judge also has a shoulder issue that has kept him out of full-team workouts and exhibition games.
The Yankees put an MLB-record 30 different players on the injured list last season, but still were able to win the AL East and reach the AL Championship Series.
