Carolina RailHawks stun L.A. Galaxy in U.S. Open Cup
CARY, N.C. (AP) — For the second consecutive year, the Carolina RailHawks upset the reigning MLS Cup champion Los Angeles Galaxy in the third round of the U.S. Open Cup, 2-0.
Both goals were scored inside a three-minute span, by Austin Da Luz and Brian Shriver.
Da Luz put a shot under Galaxy goalkeeper Brian Rowe in the 58th minute. On Carolina's next attack, Shriver raced clear to beat Rowe.
Robbie Rogers, the first openly gay man playing in a U.S. professional league, entered as a substitute in the 62nd minute and was cheered in his first away game for L.A.
