Defending Daytona 500 champion out of race
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Joe Gibbs Racing was leading the Daytona, running 1-2-3 with its stable of Toyotas.
And then, two-time Daytona 500 champion Matt Kenseth's car started to smoke.
Next, Kyle Busch blew an engine.
That left teammate Denny Hamlin as the sole JGR car on the track -- in first place.
Kenseth is the defending Daytona 500 winner and this season is running a new car for a different team. He spent 13 years with Roush Fenway Racing driving a Ford before the switch.
Busch has never won the 500.
