NASCAR noise meter: Who got loudest cheers and boos?
DARLINGTON, S.C. — The latest installment of our NASCAR driver noise meter featured a twist: Many of the drivers' mothers were introduced along with the racers prior to Saturday night's Bojangles' Southern 500 at Darlington Raceway.
So would NASCAR fans dare boo a mom?
You bet.
We ranked the top 10 drivers in noise on an unscientific scale of 1-10, and asked a couple nearby fans for assistance, too.
Here are the 10 people who got the most noise during Darlington driver intros (with the type of noise in parentheses):
1 (tie). Dale Earnhardt Jr. ... 9.5 (mostly cheers)
1 (tie). Former wrestler Ric Flair ... 9.5 (mostly cheers)
3 (tie). Kyle Busch ... 9 (boos)
3 (tie). Jimmie Johnson ... 9 (mix)
3 (tie). Jeff Gordon ... 9 (mix)
6. Tony Stewart ... 8.5 (mostly cheers)
7. Mark Martin ... 8 (cheers)
8. Kasey Kahne ... 7.5 (cheers)
9 (tie). Kurt Busch ... 7 (mix)
9 (tie). Carl Edwards ... 7 (cheers)
