NASCAR at Kansas: Start time, lineup, TV/radio schedule
KANSAS CITY, Kan. — It's NASCAR race day at Kansas Speedway, and we've got some essential information you need to get ready for today's Hollywood Casino 400.
START TIME: Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback will instruct drivers to start their engines at 2:08 p.m. Eastern time today (1:08 local), followed by the green flag at 2:16 p.m. So if you want to skip the pre-race show and just tune in for the race, turn on your TV at 2:16.
RACE DISTANCE: The Hollywood Casino 400 is -- you guessed it -- 400 miles around the 1.5-mile Kansas Speedway, which takes drivers 267 laps to complete.
NATIONAL ANTHEM: Kalee Dionne, a local TV meteorologist, is singing the national anthem. Dionne does the weather for 41 Action News in Kansas City.
TV/RADIO SCHEDULE: ESPN will broadcast today's race and has a pre-race show beginning at 1 p.m. ET. The Motor Racing Network (MRN) will call the race on the radio.
WEATHER: Brr! After the Kansas weekend opened with temperatures in the mid-80s, the high today is expected to reach the low 60s. If you're coming to the race, bring some layers.
LAST TIME: Matt Kenseth and Matt Kenseth. The current points leader won both the April race and last October's Chase race here. He's also won four of the seven races this year on 1.5-mile tracks.
STARTING LINEUP: Kevin Harvick won the pole position for today's race -- surprisingly his first pole in more than seven years (September 2006 at New Hampshire). It also was the first pole for Richard Childress Racing since September 2007.
