NASCAR at Daytona: Start time, lineup, TV/radio schedule and more
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — It's NASCAR race night at Daytona International Speedway, and we've got some essential information you need to get ready for tonight's Coke Zero 400.
START TIME: A group of Medal of Honor recipients will instruct drivers to start their engines at 7:40 p.m. Eastern time tonight, followed by the green flag at 7:57 p.m. So if you want to skip the pre-race show and just tune in for the race, turn on your TV at 7:57 p.m.
RACE DISTANCE: The Coke Zero 400 is 160 laps around the 2.5-mile Daytona International Speedway for a total of 400 miles.
NATIONAL ANTHEM: Thomas Horner, a musician from the Navy Band of the Southeast, will sing the national anthem tonight.
TV/RADIO SCHEDULE: TNT will broadcast tonight's race and has a pre-race show beginning at 6:30 p.m. ET. The Motor Racing Network (MRN) will call the race on the radio.
WEATHER: The National Weather Service is calling for a mostly cloudy skies with a 30% chance of storms and temperatures in the mid-70s. But since it's Florida in the summer, you never know when the rain could pop up.
LAST TIME: Dale Earnhardt Jr. led the final 18 laps of the Daytona 500 to become the first driver in the Chase under NASCAR's new playoff format. And one year ago, Jimmie Johnson won the Coke Zero 400 to complete the first sweep of Daytona Cup races since Bobby Allison in 1982.
STARTING LINEUP: A variety of strategies — most of them unsuccessful — led to a unique starting lineup for Saturday night's race. David Gilliland won his third career pole — all on restrictor-plate tracks.
