NASCAR at Talladega: Start time, lineup, TV/radio schedule


TALLADEGA, Ala. — It's NASCAR race day at Talladega Superspeedway, and we've got some essential information you need to get ready for Sunday's Geico 500.

START TIME: An executive from Macon Southeast will instruct drivers to start their engines at 2:09 p.m. Eastern time today (1:09 local), followed by the green flag at 2:21 p.m. So if you want to skip the pre-race show and just tune in for the race, turn on your TV at 2:21 p.m.

RACE DISTANCE: The Geico 500 is 188 laps around the 2.67-mile Talladega Superspeedway for a total of 500 miles.

NATIONAL ANTHEM: The 313th U.S. Army Band will perform the national anthem today.

TV/RADIO SCHEDULE: ESPN will broadcast today's race and has a pre-race show beginning at 1 p.m. ET. The Motor Racing Network (MRN) will call the race on the radio.

WEATHER: The National Weather Service is calling for a pleasant October day, with sunny skies, a slight breeze and a high of 71 degrees.

LAST TIME: Denny Hamlin won the spring race at Talladega to lock himself into NASCAR's Chase. And one year ago, Jamie McMurray scored a surprise win at Talladega.

STARTING LINEUP: Using NASCAR's new Talladega-only qualifying format, Brian Vickers scored the pole position ahead of Jimmie Johnson and AJ Allmendinger.
