NASCAR underway at Atlanta after delay for wet track

HAMPTON, Ga. — The start of the Sprint Cup Series race at Atlanta Motor Speedway was delayed by a wet track.

Showers and a heavy drizzle dampened the 1.54-mile surface throughout the morning, and NASCAR's Air Titans and jet dryers were not able to dry the asphalt in time for the scheduled 1:16 p.m. ET green flag.

After slightly less than an hour delay and a handful of warmup laps to heat up the track, the green flag dropped at approximately 2:10 p.m. ET.

Atlanta's date was moved from Labor Day Weekend to March 1 as part of a schedule shakeup despite concerns the weather could be cold at this time of year. The temperature at the scheduled start time for the race was 39 degrees.

Joey Logano, who won last week's Daytona 500, is on the pole for the Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500.
