Kasey Kahne in third scary Pocono pit road wall crash
LONG POND, Pa. -- For the third time in two days, a car has hit the inside pit road wall at Pocono Raceway.
The latest scary incident involved Kasey Kahne, who spun out at the conclusion of lap 4 during Sunday's Windows 10 400 and crashed into the narrow steel barrier that separates pit road from the crewmen and fans on the other side.
Kahne's car hit helmets that were perched on the wall in AJ Allmendinger's pit stall and sent them flying as people scattered. His No. 5 car also broke the wall, causing a red flag for nearly 15 minutes. Workers welded it and repaired it during that time.
"I saw the people and I was like, 'Man, you guys better take off running and get out of the way,' " Kahne said during a televised interview.
No one could recall any similar incidents -- with a car taking a sharp angle out of Turn 3 and getting onto pit road at speed -- until Saturday.
Jeb Burton crashed in nearly the exact same fashion during practice on Saturday morning, and then Ray Black Jr. hit further back toward the track during the Camping World Truck Series race.
No one was injured in any of the incidents.
