Kyle Busch turns to backup car after crash during Michigan practice

BROOKLYN, Mich. – Kyle Busch’s unusual season took another turn Saturday when he crashed hard during the final practice for Sunday’s Pure Michigan 400 at Michigan International Speedway.
Busch lost control of his Toyota in Turn 4 and slid onto the grass adjacent to the frontstretch, damaging the front end of his car. The team immediately brought out its backup car, a decision that will move Busch from a sixth starting spot Sunday to the rear of the field.
Drivers have struggled to make their cars handle well in traffic with NASCAR’s new high-drag aerodynamic package at Michigan. Busch was running in a line of cars when he lost control.
Busch has rallied from a serious February crash at Daytona International Speedway, an incident that forced weeks of rehabilitation, to win four races and qualify for the Chase for the Sprint Cup.
“I was just running around there trying to maintain speed and got a little free up off four,” Busch said.
