Martin Truex Jr.'s successful pairing with Furniture Row Racing will continue for at least two more years, the team announced Thursday night.

The 36-year-old's contract to drive the No. 78 car was set to expire after this season, but the Denver-based team reached an agreement to retain the most successful driver in its history.

"This is where I want to be, driving the No. 78 Furniture Row Racing Toyota," Truex said. "We’ve come a long way in a short period of time. ... We definitely have the resources and talent to go after victories and championships."

Truex has one win in each of the last two seasons and has led the most laps of any driver this year (1,005), making him one of the championship favorites for this fall's Chase for the Sprint Cup.

After last season, FRR switched from Chevrolet to Toyota, where it is in an alliance with powerhouse Joe Gibbs Racing. The result has been an even stronger team, and Truex has thrived.

In addition, the team announced Bass Pro Shops will increase the number of races it sponsors Truex's car from 12 to 16 next season (including the Daytona 500).

"The signing of Martin Truex Jr. to a new contract and Bass Pro Shops/Tracker Boats adding more races to its primary sponsorship package are signs of strength and confidence for the future of Furniture Row Racing," team president Joe Garone said. "Martin has proved over and over that he is one of the blue chip drivers in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series and we are elated that he will continue to drive our No. 78 Toyota."

FRR has long been expected to expand to a second car next season, though it has yet to make an official announcement.
