Kurt Busch goes to backup car for Kansas

KANSAS CITY, Kan. – Kurt Busch will begin the second race of Round 2 of the Chase for the Sprint Cup from the back at Kansas Speedway on Sunday after being forced to switch to a backup No. 41 Chevrolet.
Busch, who is currently fifth in points, mashed the front of his car sliding into the apron in the final moments of the last practice when a right front tire failed. He had been third-fasted in the practice. Busch had qualified 15th.
The Stewart-Haas Racing driver is 21 points ahead of the eighth-place cut-off. The four lowest-ranking drivers of the dozen remaining in title contention will be eliminated next weekend at Talladega Superspeedway.
The team already lost its pit stall selection at Kansas because it received a fourth written warning after failing a laser inspection station test twice at Charlotte.
Busch said after that race last weekend he was content with the finish, but he’s not comfortable with his position in the standings, admitting, “It’s all wide-open, still.”
