Jimmie Johnson's quest for a record-tying seventh title just got a lot harder.
The No. 48 car was sent to the rear of the field for failing a visual inspection after it came through pre-race inspection, according to NBC Sports, which is broadcasting the finale. Something was altered on the body of the car after it initially passed - meaning the car had unapproved modifications.
Johnson is vying for the NASCAR Sprint Cup championship, along with defending titlist Kyle Busch, Carl Edwards and Joey Logano. All four of them qualified in the top 15 on Friday.
