Knicks' Quincy Acy suspended for Christmas altercation
New York Knicks forward Quincy Acy was suspended one game for his role as aggressor in a Christmas Day altercation with Washington Wizards point guard John Wall, the NBA announced Friday.
Wall was fined $15,000, as well.
The altercation began when Wall drove to the basket in the Wizards' 102-91 loss Thursday to the Knicks and was pushed down by Acy. Wall immediately popped up and pushed Acy himself, before Acy seemed to rear back for a punch but instead thrust his body at Wall and Wizards big man Nene.
"I didn't throw a punch. I got up and reacted, then I just grabbed him," Acy told news reporters.
Acy averages 5.1 points and 4.9 rebounds a game but will miss Saturday's game at the Sacramento Kings, where his strength and size would have been useful. The Knicks are 5-26, the worst record in the NBA, as they kick off a three-game West Coast swing against the Kings, Portland Trail Blazers and Los Angeles Clippers.
Wall, who had 24 points and 11 assists in the victory for the 20-8 Wizards, offered contrition for his role.
"Me being a key player to my team, I've got to try to keep my emotions in and not get a technical or get ejected," he said in an ESPN postgame interview. "I'm a mature player, and I know how much I mean to my team."
