Matt Barnes suspended by NBA for issue with Derek Fisher
The NBA has decided to suspend Memphis Grizzlies small forward Matt Barnes two games for the off-court incident with New York Knicks coach Derek Fisher in October, a person with knowledge of the situation confirmed to Paste BN Sports.
The person spoke on the condition of anonymity because the decision had not yet been announced.
The NBA later confirmed the suspension in a statement, saying Barnes has been suspended without pay for "for engaging in a physical altercation with and threatening New York Knicks’ Head Coach Derek Fisher, the NBA announced today. The altercation occurred on October 3, 2015 in Redondo Beach, CA. The NBA conducted its own investigation into the matter."
His suspension begins Tuesday against the Miami Heat.
Fisher was visiting Barnes' estranged wife, Gloria Govan, at her Los Angeles area home when Barnes reportedly arrived and attacked him. Barnes was aware at the time that Fisher and Govan were in a relationship, but would later indicate that he was uncomfortable and angry with the way his two young sons reacted to Fisher's presence in the home.
Barnes was communicating with his sons via the Facetime app when he noticed Fisher in the background.
