Scottie Pippen on Warriors: 'I'm probably one of their biggest fans'
Within the past month, former Chicago Bulls star and NBA Hall of Famer Scottie Pippen has called Stephen Curry the greatest shooter of all-time, but has also claimed that his 1995-96 Bulls team would sweep the Warriors, and that he would hold Curry under 20 points.
On Thursday, he was at it again.
In an UNINTERRUPTED Original video, Pippen sat down with fellow Hall of Famer Gary Payton and former teammate and five-time champion Ron Harper to talk about the Warriors, and their chase for the NBA-record 73 wins that would surpass his Bulls' record of 72-10.
Some highlights from the video:
Pippen on the increased popularity of players resting and sitting out of games: "82 games, I'm talking 45 games we didn't play in the fourth quarter. Like how they do in today's game, guys sit out, they don't play them, we were never like that. When you've got an iconic team with a huge iconic guy like M.J., and myself of course, you don't want to disappoint your fans. So we never sat out of games in terms of just to rest."
Pippen on the Warriors' quest for history: "You know for me, to see the Warriors doing what they're doing today, the way the game has changed, I think it's great. I'm probably one of the Warriors biggest fans. I don't know if I'm watching them because I want to see them lose, but I played with Steve Kerr, one of my best friends, and I'm very happy to see him having that success. But I don't want to see him break my record."
Pippen on the possibility of the Warriors breaking the single-season win record: "You want to see people go at (the record). I don't want to see that 72 stay up there and no one get close. I want to see ... if they break it, let them have it. Regular season don't win championships ... Winning 70-plus games was great for us, but as my man here says (points to Harper), 72-10 don't mean a thing without the ring."
Pippen on Michael Jordan and the difference of eras: "If he played in today's era where the game is more open and there is more spacing (Payton chimes in with "50, 50" referring to the points Jordan would average) ... Yeah, his numbers would just go off the roof. I mean, I played with the guy pretty much his whole career, so I know that the guy goes in the game thinking 50."
After a 112-101 victory against the San Antonio Spurs on Thursday night, the Warriors have three games left on the chase for 73: at Memphis on Saturday, at San Antonio on Sunday, and at home against Memphis on Wednesday.
