Report: Dirk Nowitzki to stay with Mavericks

Dirk Nowitzki will remain with the Dallas Mavericks.

Nowitzki agreed to a two-year, $40 million deal that will keep the 13-time All-Star in in Dallas, ESPN reported Tuesday.  Nowitzki, 38, opted out of the final year of his contract after the season.

Nowitzki led the Mavs in scoring with 18.3 points per game last season, a campaign that concluded with a first-round loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder. Nowitzki, a former first-round pick, debuted with the Mavs and the 7-foot-tall German has spent his entire 18-season NBA career with the team.

Nowitzki guided the Mavs to the franchise’s lone championship and was selected the MVP of the 2011 NBA Finals.
