Timberwolves sign guard Lance Stephenson to 10-day contract
The Minnesota Timberwolves have signed NBA journeyman Lance Stephenson to a 10-day contract, the team announced Wednesday.
Stephenson, 26, played in six games earlier this season for the New Orleans Pelicans, averaging 9.7 points (on 47.3% shooting), 4.8 assists and 3.0 rebounds, but was waived in November after injuring his groin. He made headlines last week as one of the players who the Cleveland Cavaliers had interest in.
Stephenson, who is now with the sixth team of his career, has flashed loads of potential during his 6 1/2 NBA seasons, especially in 2013-14 with the Indiana Pacers, where he averaged 13.8 points, 7.2 rebounds and 4.6 assists as a key cog of the team's Eastern Conference finals run.
"My job right now is to work hard and to show everyone that I belong in this league," Stephenson said Wednesday.
The signing comes just days after Timberwolves guard Zach LaVine suffered a torn ACL that will sideline him for the rest of the season.
The Timberwolves (19-33) host the Toronto Raptors on Wednesday night.
