Orlando Magic fire GM Rob Hennigan

The Orlando Magic didn't wait long into the offseason to shake up their front office.

The Magic have fired general manager Rob Hennigan, the team announced in a release Thursday morning.

Assistant general manager Scott Perry was also dismissed Thursday, a person with knowledge of the situation told Paste BN Sports' Jeff Zillgitt.

The person spoke on condition of anonymity because he wasn't authorized to speak publicly.

Magic front office executive Matt Lloyd has been promoted to interim general manager and will be a candidate for the fulltime job. Head coach Frank Vogel just completed the first year of a four-year contract with a team option on the fourth year. It's unlikely that the new GM would get to pick his new coach right away.

The Magic's record was 132-278 during Hennigan's tenure, which was the second-worst in the NBA over that span.

Hennigan was hired as the youngest GM in the NBA at age 30 in 2012 and his rebuilding plan never came to fruition. Some of his trades, including moving Victor Oladipo, were questionable and there were other signings that didn't seem to fill a need.

His job was in danger with weeks left in the season and the recent whiteboard incident was seen as an embarrassment. A photo with the Magic's free agent prospects and targets was shared by an an agent on social media, and Hennigan downplayed the incident.

The Vertical was the first to report Hennigan's firing.
