'Bout time': Former Phoenix Suns guard Mike James applauds firing of GM Ryan McDonough

Former Phoenix Suns point guard Mike James is taking on all comers on Twitter about the firing of Ryan McDonough as general manager.

Since the Suns announced the decision Monday morning, James has been going back and forth on Twitter about it.

“Bout time lol, they shoulda been did that.” James tweeted.

The 6-foot-1, 195-pound point guard averaged 10.4 points in 32 games last season for the Suns. He signed a standard contract Dec. 7 of last year after his two-day deal expired, but was waived later in the month as Isaiah Canaan signed a minimum deal.

James is back overseas playing in Italy for Olimpia Milano, but took time to share his thoughts about the firing of McDonough, who was entering his sixth season as the Suns general manager.

James, 27, also gave four Twitter thumbs up to the Suns having vice president of basketball operation James Jones and assistant general manager Trevor Bukstein share the GM responsibilities in the interim.

A former NBA player, Jones will handle basketball operations related to coaches, players and staff while Bukstein is the primary contact for player transactions.

James also let it be known that Earl Watson, not McDonough, wanted him in Phoenix. McDonough fired Watson last season after an 0-3 start.

James also took a shot at Suns managing partner, Robert Sarver, who announced the decision Monday.

“After much thought and a long evaluation of our basketball operations, I have decided to relieve Ryan McDonough of his duties as general manager of the Phoenix Suns,” Sarver said in a statement. “Our focus in the short term is to prepare for the upcoming NBA season and to continue pursuing opportunities to strengthen our roster."

When asked what he thought of Sarver, James tweeted, "His house crazy."

James then continued to respond to tweets about him not being in the NBA.

The Suns open the season Oct. 17 against Dallas at Talking Stick Resort Arena.
