Los Angeles Lakers head coach JJ Redick has suggested Luka Dončić could make his eagerly anticipated debut for the team as soon as Monday night against the Utah Jazz.

“Probably more likely Monday,” Redick said, via NBA.com. “No commitment made on anything, but probably trending more towards Monday.”

Redick originally had said Dončić could play as soon as Saturday against Indiana, but he emphasized that the situation was fluid. "We all want to see him in a Laker uniform," he added.

The Lakers acquired Dončić in a blockbuster trade that involved Anthony Davis going to the Dallas Mavericks. Although the Slovenian star has not played since December due to a strained left calf, Redick said he has been participating in practices as he continues his recovery.

When is Luka Dončić's Los Angeles Lakers debut?

Coach JJ Redick said during his pregame press conference on Thursday that Dončić is expected to debut for the Lakers early this week.

“There’s no commitment to anything yet, but we’re leaning towards Monday,” Redick said. “There are no setbacks; he looked good yesterday. He had another workout and lifting session today. Everything is going well.”

The coach mentioned Thursday that they expected to receive official confirmation in the next few days that Dončić has been cleared to compete.
