The No. 8 seed in the NBA's Eastern Conference comes down to one game.

The Atlanta Hawks are set to host the Miami Heat in an NBA play-in game Friday night that will give the winning team a spot in the 2025 NBA playoffs and a first-round series against the No. 1 seed Cleveland Cavaliers. The loser of this Southeast Division matchup will have its season end and go into the NBA draft lottery.

The Hawks lost to the Orlando Magic in an NBA play-in game on Tuesday that featured the ejection of star Trae Young at the end of the fourth quarter after receiving two technical fouls. But the home team won all four regular-season meetings between these two teams and Young had 29 points and 12 assists in their most recent matchup last month.

The Heat are coming off a decisive 109-90 win on the road against the Chicago Bulls in their play-in game on Wednesday night. All but one Miami starter finished with at least 14 points, with guard Tyler Herro and wing Andrew Wiggins leading the way. The Heat have qualified for the NBA playoffs through the play-in tournament the past two years, including their 2023 NBA Finals run.
