Stephen Curry dazzles in final to win three-point contest
NEW YORK — Stephen Curry could not be touched, even by his own "Splash Brother."
The Golden State Warriors All-Star point guard put on an amazing display with 27 out of a possible 34 points in the final round of the Three-Point Shootout at All-Star Saturday in Barclays Center. He beat teammate Klay Thompson (14 points) and Cleveland Cavaliers guard Kyrie Irving (17 points) in the final round.
"I've been in it four times, so I wanted to win it and get it done," Curry said. "And thankfully, tonight I got it, was able to accomplish that."
Thompson had the best round of the first round, dropping 24 to edge Curry and Irving, who each had 23. Those three made the second and final round by beating a remarkable eight-man field that included defending champion Marco Belinelli, three-point shooting percentage leader Kyle Korver and MVP candidate James Harden.
Curry was the leading vote-getter for the All-Star Game (Sunday, 8:30 p.m. ET, TNT), and the popular star put on a show for the awed crowd.
"Crazy, competitive and high-class field of all eight shooters," Curry said. "I think this is, just watching the competition, I think this is definitely the best field that's ever been in a three-point shootout."
The contest had one unusual twist, as the players could hear commentary from TNT's crew, including three-point shooting legend Reggie Miller.
