The Los Angeles Clippers could be one step closer to getting a new arena. The city council of Inglewood, Calif. is voting Thursday on an exclusive negotiating agreement with a Clippers company to use city-owned land to build an arena, the Los Angeles Times reported.

It is 22 acres of land across the street from the 298-acre site that the Rams and Chargers stadium will be built.

The Times says that the agreement between the Clippers-controlled company and Inglewood will run for 36 months, giving the team time to complete lengthy environmental reviews. The city will receive $1.5-million to defray costs associated with the effort.

Clippers owner Steve Ballmer, who a few weeks back announced the team was going to debut a new way to watch games, would finance the 18,000-20,000 seat arena, the Times reports.

Ballmer paid $2 billion for the team in 2014 after the league forced former owner Donald Sterling to sell.

The Clippers play at the Staples Center, along with the Lakers and the NHL's Kings.
