What to know about PJ Hall, Memphis Grizzlies' current two-way contract spots

Two-way contracts have become a valuable asset for NBA teams. The Memphis Grizzlies have been a prime example of that.

GG Jackson, Vince Williams, Cam Spencer, John Konchar and Scotty Pippen Jr. are among the current players who started on two-way contracts in Memphis before earning standard deals.

The Grizzlies have created strong roster depth this offseason, but the two-way slots often come into play. Each season, at least one two-way player ends up performing a valuable role at some point.

Last season, Spencer and Jay Huff started the season on two-way contracts. Huff was promoted during the season and Spencer earned a multiyear deal this summer.

The Grizzlies currently have two of their three two-way slots filled.

Here is an update on where the team stands.

Javon Small

Javon Small was taken in the second round of the 2025 NBA Draft and quickly signed a two-way deal. The Grizzlies like his ability as a playmaking scoring guard who doesn’t mind playing pesky defense.

Small was limited to three games across summer league action in Salt Lake City and Las Vegas because of a groin injury. But in that time, he looked like a player who could be the next guard who eventually plays his way into a 15-man roster spot.

PJ Hall adds frontcourt depth

The Grizzlies waived guard Zyon Pullin and added PJ Hall to create more depth in the frontcourt.

Hall, 6-foot-10, is a versatile big man who gives Memphis additional size, but his best asset may be his ability to crash the glass. In 13 G League games last season with the Grand Rapids Gold, Hall averaged 19.2 points and 12.5 rebounds. He also spent time with the Denver Nuggets last season and played this summer with the Charlotte Hornets.

This is the second consecutive offseason the Grizzlies plucked a center off another roster and offered a two-way contract. That strategy worked out well last year when they signed Huff to a two-way deal.

They traded Huff this offseason for Jock Landale. Hall and Landale are both examples of how the Grizzlies are shaping their frontcourt with physical bigs under new coach Tuomas Iisalo.

What about Jahmai Mashack?

The wait remains for Jahmai Mashack. Memphis has one two-way slot open and he remains unsigned.

The Grizzlies acquired him with the 59th and last overall pick in the 2025 draft. Like Small, he was limited in summer league by injury but impressed when he did play. Mashack shot the ball well and showed off why he was considered arguably the best perimeter defender in the draft class.

Since Pullin was waived, all signs point to Mashack still getting the final two-way slot.
