Thabo Sefolosha is out with a fractured fibula

Atlanta Hawks guard-forward Thabo Sefolosha will miss the rest of the season, playoffs included, with a fractured fibula and ligament damage in his right leg.

Sefolosha sustained the injury in an early-morning incident Wednesday while trying to assist Indiana Pacers forward Chris Copeland, who was stabbed outside a New York City nightclub.

"This is a very difficult situation for Thabo and our thoughts and support will be with him during his recovery. We know that his approach and dedication will serve him well in his rehabilitation," coach Mike Budenholzer said. "Our team remains focused and will be prepared as we head into the postseason."

Sefolosha, who will undergo surgery, was arrested and charged with resisting arrest, obstructing governmental administration and disorderly conduct in the incident. Sefolosha refused multiple orders to disperse, charged an officer, resisted arrest by tightening and flailing his arms and it required multiple officers to handcuff Sefolosha, according to the arrest report.

This is a significant setback for the Hawks, who will enter the playoffs with the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference amid the best season in franchise history.

Sefolosha missed 23 games earlier this season with a strained right calf and did not play from Jan. 31 through March 25. He has been a contributor off the bench for the Hawks and key perimeter defender.

When Sefolosha, who averaged 5.3 points and 4.3 rebounds in 18.8 minutes per game, is on the court, the Hawks allow 95.3 points per 100 possessions. When Sefolosha isn't playing, the Hawks allow 102.6 points per 100 possessions.
