Utah Jazz agree to long-term contract extension with head coach Quin Snyder

The Utah Jazz and head coach Quin Snyder have agreed on a long-term contract extension, the team announced Friday.

Due to team policy, the financial terms of the agreement were not made public.

The Jazz, who have gone 78-86 with Snyder at the helm during the past two seasons, have finished in the top two in points allowed per game since his original hiring in the summer of 2014, and just narrowly missed the postseason this year.

“With this contract extension, we are declaring our confidence in Coach Snyder’s ability to continue to develop the Utah Jazz into a championship team,” Jazz owner Gail Miller said in a statement. “The Miller family recognizes the significant progress made under his leadership and we are excited about the direction we are headed.”

Snyder, who spent time as an assistant coach for the Atlanta Hawks, Philadelphia 76ers, and Los Angeles Lakers and Clippers before being hired by Utah, believes that he can turn the Jazz into a championship team.

“I am very grateful for this gesture by the Miller family and the Utah Jazz and appreciative of their belief in me to continue to lead this team,” Snyder said. “Amy (Snyder) and I are fortunate to be a part of a franchise and family that cares deeply for our community, stays true to its values and is committed to winning. More than anything, it is confirmation of our collective commitment to building a championship team.”
