Pablo Prigioni agrees to new contract with Knicks

With Jason Kidd across town, the New York Knicks are making sure no other guards leave them.

After agreeing to a contract extension with J.R. Smith, the Knicks also have come to terms with Pablo Prigioni, Newsday reports, citing his agent. The Argentinian point guard was a rookie last season at age 35 after years as a star in Spain's ACB league. He reportedly was considering going back to Spain after a one-year dalliance in the NBA.

Agent George Bass told the Long Island newspaper that Prigioni received a three-year deal worth $6 million, with the third year partially guaranteed. The contract cannot be signed until July 10.

Prigioni, now 36, averaged 3.5 points, 3.0 assists, 1.8 rebounds and 0.9 steals in 16.2 minutes a game last season and started 10 playoff games alongside point guard Raymond Felton. His output could increase if he takes a larger role in setting up the offense with Kidd now coaching the Brooklyn Nets.

By re-signing Prigioni and Smith and drafting Tim Hardaway Jr., the Knicks have ensured they again will have a guard-heavy rotation.
