LeBron James Family Foundation unveils next ambitious project for Akron, Ohio

No matter what the LeBron James Family Foundation does, LeBron James understands more work is required. The job to change lives never ends.
James and his charitable organization on Tuesday announced plans to open House Three Thirty, a multi-purpose space that will provide family resources such as financial health programming, job training at retail and dining shops and community gathering spaces in Akron, Ohio.
"Our main goal in everything we do is to support and prepare our families for a better future," James said in a news release. "And this concept, House Three Thirty, is the next step of that journey. I’m excited to open a space that puts everything we want to offer them under one roof. From getting them hands-on job training and financial guidance to having a space for important community events and safe physical activities, this is what we’ve learned our community needs. I can’t wait to see this come to life."

A charitable organization that started out as a bike giveaway program for Akron-area children has morphed into something larger and more significant than James ever imagined. James arranged for free college tuition for I Promise students, then opened the I Promise School for at-risk students in Akron followed by the I Promise Village for families who need transitional housing. The I Promise program serves more than 1,500 Akron students in a variety of capacities.
James and his foundation continue to imagine what is next.
Now, it’s House Three Thirty, named after Akron’s area code. It will be housed in the former Tangier building, an entertainment and event space just three blocks from the I Promise School. The building will be renovated with a scheduled 2022 opening.
There will be a variety of job training available, including working in retail, restaurant and hospitality and event planning and possibly electrical and plumbing. Family members will receive hands-on training at the venue's retail, dining and event spaces. Advisors will also work with individuals who want to get small businesses off the ground. The goal also is to help families gain a level of financial freedom.
The town-hall style room will allow House Three Thirty to host family meals, events and discussions. The roof of the parking garage will be converted into a sports complex, drive-in theater and amphitheater. The building will also include a James museum that includes artifacts and mementos where visitors can learn about the place James calls home.
"House Three Thirty represents years of us listening to our families and learning what they need," Michele Campbell, executive director of the LeBron James Family Foundation, said in a news release. "It’s addressing their financial health and giving them the skills they need to contribute to the workforce for a lifetime. Most importantly, it will be a source of pride and sense of belonging for our I Promise family and everyone who wants to be part of our movement to create positive change for generations to come. This concept is a game changer for our families, our community, and every community it touches."
