Magic's Nikola Vucevic lands 4-year contract extension
Orlando Magic center Nikola Vucevic agreed to a contract extension that will play him a base salary for $48 million over four years with incentive clauses that could push the amount to $53 million, a person familiar with the deal told Paste BN Sports.
The person requested anonymity because he was not authorized to speak publicly about the terms of the contract.
This could end up being a great deal for the Magic, who made it a priority to extend the 6-11 big man. With the salary cap expected to rise significantly over the next few seasons, extending a productive center should give the Magic financial flexibility and the ability to strengthen their roster.
The 23-year-old Montenegrin was a key part of the four-team Dwight Howard trade of 2012. He since has become one of the NBA's best rebounders and a key part to a young Magic roster.
Vucevic averaged 14.2 points (on 50.7% shooting) and 11.0 rebounds a game last season, his third out of Southern California. But he missed 25 games because of injury.
Orlando's big man rotation of the future could be Vucevic and No. 4 overall draft pick Aaron Gordon, along with backups Kyle O'Quinn and Andrew Nicholson. The team also is in extension discussions with small forward Tobias Harris.
