'I was just standing up for our guys': Fired-up Steve Nash ejected in Nets' loss to Bucks

In the third quarter of a tough matchup with the Milwaukee Bucks on Wednesday, Brooklyn Nets coach Steve Nash got a little feisty with the officials. Nash went after the referees over what he believed was a non-call and he was tossed from the game as the Nets fell to the Bucks 110-99.
Nash got into it with the officials trying to give the Nets a spark, and he had to be held back by Royce O’Neale, but it didn’t work as Brooklyn fell to 1-3 on the season. Kevin Durant led the Nets with 33 points and Kyrie Irving added 27 while Ben Simmons struggled again shooting 2-for-7 with four points and nine assists.
Afterward, crew chief Josh Tiven spoke with a pool reporter to explain the ejection of Nash.
"Steve twice yelled out a very unsportsmanlike comment that was directed at the officiating, that was the first technical," Tiven said. "The second technical was for his continual outburst after receiving the first. As per rule, because he received two technicals he’s ejected."
"I was just standing up for our guys," Nash said postgame. "I thought Patty (Mills) took a forearm in the throat from Giannis (Antetokounmpo) right in front of the ref and I didn't think that was fair. I don't think I was overly demonstrative and I was upset that I got a tech.”
Nash was ejected for the first time as Nets coach since taking over at the start of the 2020-21 season. Nash was ejected twice during his 18-season playing career.
The Nets will look to bounce back when they host the Dallas Mavericks on Thursday.
