Atlanta Hawks guard Dennis Schröder suffers ankle injury, X-rays negative
With under two minutes to play in Game 2 between the Atlanta Hawks and Boston Celtics on Tuesday night, Hawks point guard Dennis Schröder landed awkwardly on his left ankle when driving to the basket. He fell to the ground clutching his ankle, and subsequently left for the locker room.
Though X-rays came back negative, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution's Chris Vivlamore reported he left the arena with a noticeable limp and had no shoe on his left foot.
The Hawks won the game 89-72, and they now hold a 2-0 series lead. If Schröder misses any time, veteran guard Kirk Hinrich will likely take over the back up point guard duties.
Schröder, the third-year man from Germany, has thrived in his backup point guard role for Atlanta this season behind Jeff Teague, averaging career highs in points (11.0), assists (4.4), rebounds (2.6), steals (0.9), and minutes (20.3).
The Hawks play Game 3 in Boston on Friday night.
