Klay Thompson, Draymond Green give Warriors comfortable halftime lead
The Golden State Warriors need their other key players to step up in Stephen Curry's absence. So far in Game 1 against the Portland Trail Blazers, those players have been Klay Thompson and Draymond Green.
Thompson — Golden State's second-leading scorer behind Curry — put up 18 points on seven-for-10 shooting in the first quarter (four-for-seven from three), and the Warriors finished the quarter with a 37-17 lead.
He cooled off a bit in the second quarter (four points), but Green was right there to pick up the slack.
The do-it-all forward went into the half with 12 points, eight rebounds, five assists, two blocks and a steal with the Warriors holding a comfortable 65-51 lead.
For Portland, the dynamic backcourt duo of Damian Lillard and C.J. McCollum combined to score just 14 points on 3-for-19 shooting in the first half.
