Steve Kerr: Warriors' Steph Curry doubtful for Game 4 vs. Trail Blazers
Though there’s likely a temptation to bring Steph Curry back from his MCL sprain as soon as possible given the competitive nature of the Golden State Warriors' series vs. the Portland Trail Blazers, coach Steve Kerr is taking a cautious approach to his superstar.
With that in mind, Kerr said Curry is doubtful for Monday’s Game 4 in Portland. The Blazers earned a crucial win in Game 3 on Saturday night and trail 2-1.
“I would just say he’s doubtful for tomorrow, but slowly and surely making progress,” Kerr said.
Curry hasn’t played since April 24th and has missed the Warriors’ last four games after slipping on a damp spot on the court in Game 4 against the Houston Rockets. He played 2-on-2 with Warriors coaches before Saturday’s game and then did some 3-on-3 work on Sunday.
“He looked about like he looked yesterday in terms of movement,” Kerr said. “Conditioning is going to be an issue, but hopefully he can get more and more work in and we’ll see how it comes up tomorrow.”
Curry initially expressed hope that he’d be able to return for Game 3 vs. the Blazers, the Warriors' second loss this postseason with him sidelined.
Kerr said the decision to ultimately play him will be a combination of factors from both the medical staff and Curry.
“I know I’d get a truthful answer from Steph (about his status),” Kerr said. “He’s not going to try to be a hero, and we’ll make the reasonable decision based on all the information.”
