Sunday night’s game netted the highest-rated NBA telecast ever on ABC (18.9 overnight rating) and the ratings peaked (25.5) as the Cleveland Cavaliers beat the Golden State Warriors to claim Cleveland’s first major sports title in decades.
That 18.9 overnight rating was the best either ABC or ESPN have pulled in for a sports telecast in a decade, ESPN said in a news release on Monday.
The game was the second-highest rated NBA game ever measured in the Cleveland (46.3) and San Francisco (39.4) markets.
Game 7 also the most-viewed NBA game on ESPN’s streaming service, WatchESPN. WatchESPN had 96.2 million total minutes streamed during the game from 1.76 million unique viewers, a record for a non-World Cup event.
