Sam Hinkie hired as Philadelphia 76ers GM
The Philadelphia 76ers have reached an agreement with Sam Hinkie to be their general manager, a person with knowledge of the deal told Paste BN Sports.
The person spoke on condition on anonymity because the agreement has not been announced.
Hinkie, a leader in the league's analytics movement who was second in command for the Houston Rockets behind general manager Daryl Morey for the past six years, was a leading candidate for the job last summer before the decision was made to promote then-Sixers vice president Tony DiLeo to general manager. DiLeo's contract reportedly expires on June 30.
Former Sixers coach Doug Collins resigned after the season, meaning Hinkie will be on the lookout for Collins' replacement while preparing for the June draft and contemplating the future of free-agent-to-be center Andrew Bynum. Yahoo! Sports first reported the hiring.
