Spurs general manager R.C. Buford named 2015-16 NBA Executive of the Year

San Antonio Spurs general manager R.C. Buford has been named the 2015-16 NBA Basketball Executive of the Year, the league announced Monday.

Buford is in his 14th season with the team. This marks the second time he has won the award (2013-14).

Selected by a panel of basketball executive across the NBA, Buford finished with 77 points on 29 first-place votes. Behind him in the voting was Neil Olshey of the Portland Trail Blazers with 63 points (10 first-place votes) and Bob Myers of the Golden State Warriors with 38 points (five first-place votes).

Rounding out the top five were Masai Ujiri of the Toronto Raptors (18 points, two first-place votes) and Rich Cho of the Charlotte Hornets (17 points, one first-place vote).

After a first-round exit in last year's playoffs, the Spurs were able to land blockbuster free agent LaMarcus Aldridge, as well as veteran big man David West, Boban Marjanovic, and Jonathon Simmons to accompany recently-awarded two-time Defensive Player of the Year Kawhi Leonard and franchise cornerstone players Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobili and Tony Parker.

Led by Buford and head coach Gregg Popovich, the Spurs finished the 2015-16 regular season with a franchise-best 67-15 record, as well as a 40-1 home record at the AT&T Center.

The Spurs cruised to a first-round sweep of the Memphis Grizzlies earlier this month, and are now tied at two games apiece in a Western Conference semifinals series with the Oklahoma City Thunder.
