10 things the NCAA tournament selection committee got right
1. Virginia as the final No. 1 seed
Any team that can win the regular-season title and the conference tournament in the ACC deserves to be in the discussion for a 1-seed. Virginia topped every team in the ACC at least once with an unbalanced schedule. Well deserved.
2. Seven Big 12 teams in the field of 68
There was talk that a 10-team league should never deserve seven teams in, but this league was exceptional all year and earned it.
3. Wichita State as No. 1 seed
Regardless of the fact that their conference was down this year, Wichita State played one of the tougher non-conference schedules and won them all.
4. BYU as a No. 10 seed
BYU was tournament worthy before the injury to Kyle Collinsworth, the committee recognized that.
5. Iowa in the play-in game
I felt this match-up would occur with Tennessee as the losses piled up for Iowa. They were lucky to stay in.
6. San Diego State as a No. 4 seed
A very solid team in a down year for the Mountain West, but the win at Kansas turned out to be huge.
7. Louisville as a No. 4 seed
As well as they are playing now, their entire body of work was lacking. They were my last 3-seed but felt they deserved a 4-seed.
8. Stephen F. Austin as a No. 12 seed
To go 31-2 for the season, regardless of conference, is quite an accomplishment.
9. Nebraska not in the play-in game
For Nebraska, this is huge just being IN the tournament, but to also not have to play in the first round is quite an accomplishment. I felt they had a better resume than Iowa, and the committee agreed.
10. A-10 with six teams in
Not sure why Coach K singled this conference out when talking about bubble teams, but they are deserving of their six bids.
