Virginia star Justin Anderson out 4-6 weeks with broken finger
Virginia star Justin Anderson will have surgery Sunday to repair a broken finger on his left hand and will be out 4-6 weeks, the school announced in a statement Saturday.
Anderson, a 6-6 junior guard and all-ACC candidate, was injured in the first half of No. 3 Virginia's 52-47 win against No. 8 Louisville. He ranks second on the team in scoring at 13.4 points a game.
It's a key loss for the Cavaliers, who currently are in position to claim a No. 1 seed in the NCAA tournament and win the ACC.
With two wins this week against top-15 teams, the Cavaliers preserved their ACC lead, with Notre Dame one game back, UNC one and a half games back, and Louisville and Duke two back.
Virginia (21-1, 9-1 ACC) plays at North Carolina State on Wednesday.
Anderson could be back in time for the NCAA tournament; Selection Sunday is March 15.
