Tuesday tip-off: Cincinnati, Temple aim to enhance résumés

Setting up the day in college basketball:

Best bet: Cincinnati's road victory at Southern Methodist last week gave the Bearcats' NCAA tournament résumé a huge boost. They'll try for another in a key American Athletic Conference showdown at Temple (7 p.m. ET, CBS Sports Network). The winner will be alone in third in the league standings. It would be another feather for the Owls, who own a home win against Kansas but were trounced by the Bearcats in Cincinnati by 31 on Jan. 17.

The first encounter was close at intermission, but Cincinnati broke open a one-point game by hitting its first 11 shots of the second half. Temple PG Will Cummings sat out that game with a leg injury, but that was his only absence. He paces the Owls in scoring average (13-2) and assists (4.0). But Fs Octavius Ellis and Gary Clark give the Bearcats a big edge on the glass, where Temple often struggles.

Number of the day: 38. Texas Tech is the early favorite for this week's bad timing award after managing only 38 points at Iowa State in what was a payback game for the Cyclones. It was the second time the Red Raiders failed to reach 40 points in Big 12 play this season. It wouldn't be a complete shocker if it happens again against No.9 Kansas squad (9 p.m. ET, ESPN2). The Jayhawks will be eager to erase the memory of their setback at Oklahoma State on Saturday.

Days until Selection Sunday: 33.
