NCAA tournament preview: Arkansas vs. Wofford
No. 5 Arkansas (26-8) vs. No. 12 Wofford (28-6)
Time, TV: 9:50 p.m., TNT
Where: Jacksonville
Why Arkansas will win: Though the Razorbacks had plenty of inexplicable losses in Mike Anderson's first three seasons, they haven't had any this year, showing more composure away from home and playmaking ability in close games. The Hogs (No. 5 in the West) sometimes can't adjust their frenetic style, but they should be able to impose their pace on Wofford, which has nobody in the post to defend SEC player of the year Bobby Portis (17.5 ppg, 8.6 rpg).
Why Wofford will win: With nobody taller than 6-6 in their starting lineup, the No. 12 seed Terriers will slow the pace on offense, test Arkansas' patience and try to make outside shots, which they do pretty well at 37.6% from the three-point line. The Southern Conference champions were able to win at North Carolina State in December, showing they could play effectively against power conference talent.
History lesson: Wofford played in this building (Veterans Memorial Arena) in the 2010 tournament, nearly taking down Wisconsin as a No. 13 seed. The Terriers, in their first NCAA tournament game, tied the game at 49 with 1:17 left before Wisconsin's Jon Leuer hit the go-ahead jumper with 17 seconds left.
